Yamashiro has been with Nintendo for 15 years. He worked under the supervision of Shigeru Miyamoto for seven years until joining NST in September 2000. In June 2002, he was appointed President of NST.

Yamashiro's first assignment was F-Zero for Super Nintendo which was followed by development with second-party Nintendo partner Rare on Donkey Kong Country. Yamashiro also worked with Paradigm Entertainment on Pilotwings 64. Later, he produced Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball with Angel Studios. With NST, he has helped produce Wave Race Blue Storm and 1080 Avalanche.
